Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi announced on Sunday the establishment of six new faculties at Kayan University, marking a significant expansion in the country’s higher education infrastructure. The announcement was delivered during the opening session of the third medical conference of the Armed Forces Medical College, held at the Safwa International Conference Centre in the New Capital.

The conference brought together Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, senior government officials, military commanders, and renowned heart surgeon Sir Magdi Yacoub. The event highlighted recent developments in medical education and training, as well as progress within Egypt’s healthcare system since 2014.

A central feature of the conference was the signing of a cooperation protocol between the Armed Forces Medical College and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. President Sisi described this agreement as part of broader state efforts to boost quality standards in both education and healthcare sectors.

In his remarks, President Sisi emphasized that improving education and healthcare remained among his foremost priorities, describing them as key drivers of national progress. He acknowledged that despite substantial investments in these sectors since 2014, the scale of existing challenges meant that the impact of these efforts was not always fully apparent to the public.

The president stressed that state efforts focused not only on expanding facilities and increasing the number of graduates but also on ensuring quality and excellence. He highlighted partnerships with leading international universities and hospitals as an important means of building capacity and transferring expertise.

Regarding the new Kayan University, Sisi outlined plans for six specialized faculties: medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, pharmacy, engineering, and computers and artificial intelligence. The university is expected to accommodate approximately 25,000 students and seek partnerships with prestigious international institutions. It is scheduled to open in February 2027.

To support access to education, the president directed the Tahya Misr Fund to cover tuition fees for outstanding students admitted to the university, provided they maintain a high level of academic achievement. Additionally, Sisi instructed Prime Minister Madbouly and relevant ministries to develop a legal framework governing educational endowments. This initiative aims to encourage greater institutional support for education through transparent mechanisms.

Concluding his address, President Sisi underlined the importance of continued communication between government officials and citizens to explain the state’s efforts. He stressed that sustainable development required long-term planning, continuous follow-up, stability, and perseverance.
